Background
: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. As a child, my family moved about every 5 years. My father was a teacher and liked to be near the school that he worked in. So, I have lived all over Los Angeles, from South Central to the Valley. I have lived near 92nd and Main St, 74th St. and Western Ave., in the Silver Lake area, Griffith Park area, and in the Hollywood Hills. As an adult I have lived in Pico/Robertson, Studio City, Canoga Park, Van Nuys, Reseda, and now in West Hills, where I have spent more time than any of the previous places.
I am married, have 4 daughters, 2 grandsons, 1 dog, and 15 tropical fish! My wife’s name is Judy. My mother, Helen Albert, was a co-founder of the City of West Hollywood, and served as Mayor of West Hollywood for a year while she was a member of the West Hollywood City Council. Upon her passing, the City of West Hollywood renamed the West Hollywood Farmers Market, that she started, to the Helen Albert Farmers Market, in her honor.
I have lived in West Hills for 18 years and love it. I worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 34 years as a teacher, advisor, and assistant principal. For 29 of those years I was in the Division of Special Education, serving children with special needs. In the middle of those 34 years with LAUSD I took a break of 16 years, and went into private industry where I worked for 2 different banks in their personal computer departments as a systems designer and programmer. As part of those 16 years I also became self employed while owning a small commercial print shop.
In addition to my professional career, I have been very involved in community service. I was a co-founder, 14 years ago, of the West Hills (North) Neighborhood Watch, and am still the block captain for that group. I also was very involved in helping shape the proposed expansion of the Corporate Pointe project located at Fallbrook and Roscoe. I was a member of the committee that was successful in having the retail portion of that project removed, among other modifications that will benefit the neighborhood.
I have been active with the Environment Committee of the WHNC and have attended many meetings, and tours, related to the cleanup of the SFFL facility. I am a member of the Communications Committee and have had an active role in adding new features and content to the WHNC web site.
I love West Hills because it is a beautiful community to live in. I particularly enjoy the peace and tranquility that makes it unique in Los Angeles. It’s a delight to see neighbors walking the streets with their children and/or pets with big smiles on their faces!
Goals:
As a member of the WHCN I hope to help perpetuate this West Hills ambiance. Return to Board of Directors
