At the WHNC’s June meeting, LAPD Officer Donald Thompson displayed the Presidential Medal of Valor that President Barack Obama gave him during a ceremony at the White House in May.
Officer Thompson, a member of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Bomb Unit, was honored for pulling an accident victim from a burning car on the San Diego Freeway on Dec. 25, 2014.
Thompson answered questions from the audience and noted that the WHNC was the first organization to recognize his actions when it presented him its Certificate of Appreciation early in 2015. “That meant a lot to me,” he said.
