Volunteers from West Hills and Canoga Park worked together on the morning of March 4 to clear weeds, overhanging branches and debris from sidewalks along Shoup Avenue and Saticoy Street in Canoga Park.
The cooperative venture was sponsored by the Neighborhood Councils of the two communities, with support from the offices of California Assemblymember Matt Dababneh and Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield.
A KABC-7 camera operator recorded the event for a report on WHNC Beautification Committee Co-Chair Reeyan Raynes, who was later honored as a “Cool Kid” by the television station for his community activism.
“We want to thank all the volunteers who came,” Raynes said, “including those from El Camino Real Charter High School’s Key Club and the West Valley Garden Club who worked hard to make our communities look nicer!”
Tony Brosamle, Raynes’ Beautification Committee co-chair, added: “We also thank our local Ralphs market near Victory and Fallbrook for donating coffee and snacks to keep us warm and energized for the cleanup.”
West Hills neighbors also pitched in for another successful Community Cleanup on April 8, as volunteers cleared away weeds on Platt Avenue between Haynes Street and Vanowen Street.
