A Cultural, Community & Senior Center for West Hills
The West Hills Neighborhood Council’s Ad-hoc Cultural, Community & Senior Center Committee has been working to establish a center in West Hills to improve the quality of life for the residents of the western San Fernando Valley by providing cultural, community and senior activities and services. Our vision includes an approximately 10,000-sq. ft. building with a large assembly room/auditorium, a kitchen, offices and meeting rooms.
The center’s programs will include cultural events, services for seniors and the disabled, lectures, classes, health screenings, tutoring programs and other multi-generational activities, and emergency services when needed.
The center also will be a venue for town hall meetings and other forums, empowering the people of West Hills and surrounding communities with new opportunities to take part in making decisions and working together for the benefit of their community.
The greatest challenge to date has been finding a suitable location. To that end, the committee has been looking at privately owned properties as well as working with various City and State agencies. A recent meeting with Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks was promising, and a list of possible Rec & Parks locations is forthcoming.
Anyone who can help us achieve our goals is invited to participate in the committee. The Community/Senior Center Committee meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at Chaminade Preparatory High School’s Condon Center.
