WEST HILLS HALLOWEEN HOUSES ON DISPLAY RESULTS
Sunday night October 24, Judges of the 3rd Annual Halloween Houses on Display Competition of West Hills viewed 34 exterior of homes and spent several hours afterward in discussion as to the winners of the competition. After discussing, scary clowns, ghosts, candy out of canons, a haunted tunnel, yoga skeletons and Dexter among the unique and creative displays this year, and struggling with a very difficult decision, they have determined the following people as the front-runners of this years’ event.
In the SCARY CATEGORY First place goes to The Casey Family. Second Place is awarded to Jeff and Alicia Hannan, while Third Place is awarded to Lon and Oliafia Moeller. In the COMICAL CATEGORY First place goes to Elizabeth and Dodd Harris. Second Place is awarded to the Henley Family. And Third Place winners are the Marks Family. This year the Innovation Award is given in the Comical category to the Marks Family for their creative uniqueness and individuality. Please congratulate them and all of the entries as they are amazing. AND THIS IS A FREE EVENT that is sponsored by the Special Events Committee of the WHNC, and Councilmember John Lee of CD12. It is supported by Trader Joe's, Nuthin Bundt Cakes, Party City, and Olive & Fig Restaurant and Jazz Bar.
The creativity is amazing among our West Hills residents and it is free to visit the houses through October 31. BUT WE ASK THAT YOU EITHER DRIVE BY THE HOUSE OR LOOK AT THE HOUSE FROM THE SIDEWALK AND NOT WALK ONTO THE PROPERTY. The houses are listed below.

Trader Joes market will be providing Gift Baskets of product for the First, Second and Third Place winners of this year's competition along with the crystal trophies, certificates and CD12 commendations that are provided. The judges for this years' competition have been selected. They are:

The Judges:

Elliot S. Maggin, is an American writer of comic books, film, television, and novels. He was the main writer for DC Comics during the Bronze and early Modern ages of comics in the 1970s and 1980s. He is particularly associated with the character of Superman. He is known for his work on Spider-Man: The Ultimate Villain Showdown , Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and X-Men: The Animated Series.
Gary D’Amico is an 8- time nominated Special Effects Designer and winner of the series HEROES. His designs and creations are credited with giving TV and movies that atmosphere and effects that go unparalleled on such shows as AGENTS OF SHIELD, STATION 19, SONS OF ANARCHY, and movies such as THE CORE, DODGEBALL A TRUE STORY, and DAWN OF THE DEAD.

West Hills resident Dempsey Tillman has been added as a judge for this years’ event. A writer director of award winning horror and sci fi films Dempsey is one of the new talents in the industry who has worked at the side of such directors as The Russo Brothers (AVENGERS -ENDGAME) James Wan (AQUAMAN) Steven Spielberg (LINCOLN) and Jordan Peele (US).

Tony Petrossian is an acclaimed director of music videos and television commercials. His work has garnered MTV Video Music Awards nominations for Best Director & Best Editor, the Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival, nominations for Video Of The Year at the Much Music Video Awards & Rock Video Of The Year at the MVPA Awards. He has created the visual effects of the horror thriller FORGET ME NOT and responsible for most of the creative commercials we see on tv.

Councilman John Lee has agreed to once again be a judge for this years’ event. Taking time out of his busy schedule Councilman Lee always likes to be personal and friendly with his constituents of CD12 and discovered that residents of West Hills were amazingly creative when he judged in 2020. A supporter of the arts and community involvement John Lee is committed to putting the neighborhoods of the twelfth district first and ensuring that his residents and businesses have a voice at City Hall. His office always finds time for West Hills.

The Special Events Committee of the WHNC has extended the deadline for submitting an application to October 21, 2021.   You will find a fillable application on this site or at Fields market, or the Party Store.
