Chatsworth Nature Preserve Open House 2017

On Sunday April 2 2017, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) and the Santa Susana Mountain Park Association hosted the Annual Chatsworth Nature Preserve Earth Day Open House on providing the public with a rare opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Chatsworth Nature Preserve and Ecology Pond. With nearly 2,000 community members in attendance throughout the day, the event featured a special Chumash and Tataviam Native American Tribal Blessing performed by tribe member Alan Salazar, live animal exhibits, informational booths from environmental and community groups, and two-mile guided walking tours around the Chatsworth Pond. Local residents and environmental experts provided tours to the public with historical background of the area, as well as facts about the animal and plant life in the preserve. Your West Hills Neighborhood Council was there in full force speaking with residents about local community issues and answering questions regarding our position on the preservation of the Ecology Pond. Special shout out and thanks to LADWP and the SSMPA for making this event possible and a resounding success.
